Horror Block Subscription Box For The Month Of July, 2015

My poor blog has been neglected due to my ailing health over the past few months. I've made notes during the course of this period, but I haven't had the energy to do the full write up's on here. I am now currently suffering from a case of acute bronchitis, but I am even more determined to play catch up. I have nine Horror Blocks, three Sci-Fi Blocks and one Welcome Block to cover and a multitude of genre movies and television shows to review, so I guess there's not time like the present.

The Tampa area has been having the worst rainy season in a long time which has caused an up rise in flooding. Our neighbourhood has had it's fair share of over spilling lake water filling the roads with several inches of liquid H2O and gunk for the past two months. The set up of the pathway to our front door always creates a huge puddle of water so we end up sloshing through several inches of water even if we have a mild rain fall. With this in mind, I became extremely vigilant checking every day to see if my Horror Block box had been left there once I received the notification in the e-mail it had been shipped to my address. The last thing I wanted was to deal with a sodden soggy box full of damaged damp items. I was starting to worry that it had fallen prey to a newly opened hell mouth or had been taken prisoner by a serial Horror Block kidnapper, but after ten days I was happy to see it waiting there for me on the doorstep and on a rare day when it was dry. Since the rain issue had played out on my mind I think it would be a welcome addition if these subscription box services enclosed their boxes in a plastic wrap, like magazine subscriptions do to protect the paper from the elements. Failing that, make their boxes with a waxy water resistant coating. Worth a thought at least especially in places like rainy Wales. I guess I was lucky to receive my first Horror Block so quickly. They normally arrive within a seven to fifteen day window so the second one was more on par with what they say on their website.

This box was much heavier than the last so that intrigued me from the get go.

So what horrors lurked within the box?

On opening I immediately discovered not one, but two tee's folded neatly on top of the other items in the box. This was a surprise. I wasn't aware that Horror Block occasionally include an extra t-shirt. The first shirt depicts a firey red, orange and yellow American Werewolf in London creature face design set against a black background. There is no text or logo identifying the movie so you'd have to be familiar with that film to know what it is. It's very striking and it's not every day you get to own a shirt that references that classic horror. No geek points lost this time, I instantly recognized what horror film it was from. My wife loves it. Fresh from the box...the cardboard label attached to the shirt is the NERD Block logo one and on the reverse side advertising information for the online store Shirt Punch with a 10% saving off your next t-shirt purchase. The suggested retail price for this shirt is $19.99 which I think sounds about right. I have bought similar shirts at comic book stores and they range from $19.99 up to $24.99. The shirt is made from heavy cotton favouring the larger geek figure. They are not slim fit shirts, although you can specifically order that style and other sizes when you make up a subscription box.

The second t-shirt is the Horror Block exclusive and from what I've seen online the shirts they send out vary a lot. Not everyone will received the same shirt. I lucked out amazingly.
